| | I thought it was from God! | ] | I have a few recommendations for Christmas, if you are the sort that enjoys it.
The movie which is and has been for a while my favorite Christmas movie is Millions. It's a very adorable story about a weirdo misunderstood british kid whose imaginary friends are Catholic martyrs, who finds a bag of stolen money and is convinced he's got a responsiblity to change the world with it. It's directed by Danny Boyle, and there's a heist in the middle of it, and it makes fun of Mormons. Here's the trailer:
The trailer's a little maudlin and corny like the movie trailer for every 'heartwarming family drama' movie, and wait they're playing that children's choir music in the trailer now and oh great, I'm starting to get all teary and sniffly just remembering how much I like this movie, and god damn it
Anyway.
On the subject of christmas music: at one point in my life I had a copy of an album called Lifted, which was a Starbucks-issue collection of religious music, and there was on that album a gospel choir performance of Joy to the World, directed and led by Patrinelle Wright. I've since lost this file and it's caused me no end of frustration, because the lady leading the performance had the most wonderful Jamaican accent and hearing them perform the song was just supernal.
EDIT: Found it!! :D
The closest I was able to find on the internet was a shorter a capella performance that Wright led with a half dozen singers. It's very brief, all of 75 seconds long, and kind of sounds like it's just begging for some enterprising person with dj-ing experience to make some kind of mashup out of it, the way the kids do these days.
Also, if you like videogames, have a collection of traditional christmas music made into chiptunes.

Finally, one of my favorite wintertime cartoons is The Snowman. There are two excellent things about this cartoon, and those things are: 1.) David Bowie in that sweater, what was he thinking, and 2.) the absolutely goddamned phenomenal colored pencil animation.
I probably don't have to tell you that the whole genre of "kid has an adventure of the imagination with an unlikely friend, told largely without words" is one that I'm a fan of, so it's easy to see why I dig this story so much.
Here is a high quality AVI of it, knock yourself out. :D |

| Heart Broken |

| | crushed | ] | Well I made it saftly up to Maine, only to be there for a week just to have Ashley (Icy Paws) brake up with me on Tuesday. I left that night and did a straight drive back home, only stopping twice for a 1 hour nap and two stops for fast food. I got home after 24 hours of almost stright driving, it was nice to take a shower and get some real sleep.
But I still feel like a complete mess right now, and its going to take awhile for me to stop being so heart broken. It was like everything was great between us and then out of no where she brakes up with me. It's also feels like me pulling teeth just to get answers as to why she left me, all I could get from her was that she loves me more like a friend, how she dosn't want to be in a monagmous relationship, and how her family is pressuring her to drop me. I feel like her family is making her choose between me and them and that shes being brain washed.
But if thats true, I would exspect her to be a lot more emotional that what she was when she ended it. I meen it hasn't even been 24 hours and she has plans to fuck some guy today. So while I'm here crying and in a complete mess she's screwing some other guy that she just met online. I really thought we met everything to one another, I did completly love her. Before her I was only been in love 2, now it's been 3 times...all three times seeing myself spending the rest of my life and even marrying the other person. And when the relationship ended it tooks months just to be able to function again and I never really fully get over them. It can be a couple of years later and just one day out of the blue I'll remember them and just brake down wishing we where still togeather and spending our lives with each other. |
